Vinod Kapri won the National Award for the Best Documentry:
‘CAN’T TAKE THIS SHIT ANY MORE’
After a remarkable journey which started with print media in 1992, Vinod Kapri joined television in 1995. After completing 23 years in journalism, he has turned into a filmmaker with his debut film ‘MISS TANAKPUR HAAZIR HO’; releasing soon this year by Fox Star studios.
Famous for his innovative and out-of-the-box documentaries like ‘13th December’, shows like ‘Arif Aur Gudiya’, his documentary ‘Can’t Take This Shit Any More’ is the story of six married women who returned to their parents’ homes due to lack of toilets in their new homes. Faced with indignity and discomfort of having to defecate in the open, these women indifferent to the social pressure returned to their parents’ homes. This is something unthinkable, for married women in these parts. Set in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district (India), the documentary is a grim reminder of the desperate situation of the womenfolk, who are supposed to observe pardah on one hand and are forced to relieve themselves out in the open on the other.
While documenting the stories of these six women, who had the courage to stick to their demands, the film also questions the priorities of the families who spend beyond their means on the wedding but do not have enough money to build a toilet in their backyard.
With every project Vinod kapri is moving on a bigger journey that again proves that his risks when summed up with extreme hard work produce innovations in his work.
